3/12/22 An update to our masking policies: With the end of LA County’s & LA City’s mask mandates for indoor activities taking place in youth environments, we have made some changes to our masking policies for children as of March 12th. Your family’s health & safety are of utmost importance to us, as are your children’s developmental needs. The changes that took place on March 12th allow us to more equally take both of these into account, and to offer families more choice. We will make more changes as conditions change, and when children under five become eligible for vaccination. We understand that you have choices when it comes to parent-and-child classes, and we thank you for being part of our community.

Please read below for our policies. Substantive changes (and important things staying the same) are in bold.

Policies & what to expect:

  • Visual wellness checks at the door will continue; however, we have discontinued temperature checks. Your self wellness check at home is very important, and PLAY families have been doing these faithfully since our reopening, which has kept us all safe. That said, if anyone in your party is showing outward signs of illness, you will not be permitted on the premises.
  • All adults participants in both music and art activities are still required to be masked & provide proof of full vaccination. We are continuing these measures to minimize risk for our child participants, almost all of whom are still ineligible for vaccination. We follow the procedures in LA City’s SafePassLA ordinance (in effect as of November 8, 2021) for our vaccine requirement for adults. You can read the ordinance HERE.
  • Masking for children 2 years and up is optional as of March 12th, 2022, when LA County’s universal indoor mask mandate for youth settings ended. Please note: “Both CDPH and County Public Health continue to strongly recommend that individuals in these settings continue to mask while indoors until transmission rates are much lower” (LA County Public Health). As always, masking is not recommended for children under 2.
  • All participants will need to sign a liability release form for themselves and their attending children. (Caregivers will sign a separate form.) All paperwork must be completed before the first class day.
  • There will be only ONE parent/caregiver per child allowed in class. We will make occasional exceptions to this rule for requests made 24 hours prior to class for one adult guest (with proof of vaccination and masking). We have added this exception so that we may allow the occasional visiting grandparent or other adult extended family member.
  • Your teachers and all PLAY staff are fully vaccinated. Desk staff at PLAY and art facilitators will be masked. Once our spring PLAY music session begins, your PLAY music teacher at PLAY or SCM will either be masked or wearing a face shield.
  • We ask families to respect each other’s space, communicate with each other, and maintain social distancing as much as possible. For information on classroom spaces, class sizes, and handling of instruments and art materials, please visit the registration pages for PLAY music at PLAY (Mid-Wilshire), PLAY music at Silverlake Conservatory, Messy Art, and Messy Mixed Media.

Things to remember on your class day:

  • Before coming to PLAY or SCM for your scheduled class, please do a self wellness check for any signs of illness, including: fever, cough, shortness of breath, or any other possibly troubling signs. If you observe any of these symptoms in yourself or your child, please stay home. As always, our main goal is for or sites to be a safe, clean, and healthy environments for children, and we can only achieve this with the help of all of our families.
  • We’ll ask you to remove your shoes after you enter the space. Please come prepared with socks.
  • Please do not bring any people with you other than the participants you have registered.
  • Face coverings are required for all parents and caregivers, and must fit properly, covering nose and mouth.
  • Please arrive no earlier than 5 minutes before your scheduled time.
  • There is NO FOOD allowed in the spaces at this time. Water bottles are allowed in all rooms.
  • All common areas are cleaned frequently. Hand sanitizer is supplied in all rooms, and we encourage you to wash your hands thoroughly for at least 20 seconds with soap and water as recommended by the CDC before and after participating in activities at PLAY or SCM.
  • If you test positive for COVID–19 within 2-3 weeks of visiting us, please notify PLAY as soon as possible so we can take appropriate steps to notify anyone who may have been exposed.
  • We don’t allow strollers in the space, but at PLAY we’ll lend you a bike lock if you want to leave it out front, and there is ample space for locking it up.
